Our Wellness Model: The 6 Pillars of Self-Care
I've studied and trained with WellGrounded Life founder Lisa Grace Byrne in her whole-life methodology that explores women's wellness through 6 Pillars of Self Care.
In the wellness courses and workshops I offer, the self-care tools presented all fit into one of these six areas of wellness. Here is a brief introduction.
We start with calm because it is critical to move our brains and our bodies out of a chronic stress state. None of the other areas of wellness can be as effective if the brain and body are stuck in overwhelm. The calm pillar includes many techniques to address stress by increasing the calm in our thoughts, our food choices, our routines, and more.
Food is often the first thing you think of when you hear "wellness". The approach we take is positive and confidence-building, not restrictive. There are no "diets" here. This is high-quality information about the basics of human nutrition and how you can best use food as a tool and not a weapon.
Rest is a sadly neglected component of a solid wellness plan. It can feel overwhelming to address this pillar, especially in the first few years of motherhood. The key to improving your rest is understanding how your body is made to function at its best. We will need to tap into the wisdom of your hormone systems. Improving your rest will make such a huge difference in your overall wellness!
The move pillar addresses the movement and flow of all areas of your life - how your physical body moves with exercise, how your mind moves with creative expression, and how your environment can flow with regular cleansing and de-cluttering. Although it may sound a little intimidating, we approach the move pillar with joy!
Caring for yourself is really the first step in being able to effectively and deeply care for the people you care about. We spend time in our programs addressing the relationships we have with our family and our friends. Personal connection plays such a huge part in a joyful life.
This pillar focuses on becoming clear about who you are and what you want out of your life. It is worth spending some time thinking about how you spend your time and how to make the changes which will bring you more joy and contentment. Living an aligned life allows you to live in peace.
I really look forward to exploring all of these wellness areas with you!
